This is official description applies to version 2011.09.03

Sysinternals Toolbox lets you access the Sysinternals tools for Windows. These are small utilities programmed by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell. They include programs to edit the autorun list, scan for rootkits, monitor the running processes, etc.

The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 2.7

Sysinternals Toolbox is a collection of maintenance tools from the Sysinternals Suite which can be found at sysinternals.com. This is a set of tools that can help you perform various administrative tasks in any Windows system. The programs are compatible with Windows 7.

It is claimed that the most useful tools of the suite have been integrated in the toolbox. There is a setup program that installs them to Start Menu\Programs\System\Sysinternals Toolbox - where it quite easy to access the tools from, especially in Vista or Windows 7.

This package provides all the essential tools that one needs to be able to check their computer. The tools are arranged into different categories. The “security utilities” consist of Access Enumerator, Rootkit Revealer, etc. The Rootkit Revealer is used to scan for rootkits (a certain kind of viruses that manipulate the Windows API to hide themselves so that they can’t even be seen in the task manager or using any Windows command-line tools).

The "File and Disk Utilities" category has Disk Monitor, Disk Viewer, Page Defrag, etc. They are basic disk tools to check the properties of hard disks and volumes. The Page Defrag can defragment the page file; useful on computers with little hard disk space and memory.

There are also network utilities like AD Explorer, AD Insight, TCPView, etc. AD Explorer and AD Insight give information about Active Directory Services. We can also edit the settings. They are advanced tools. TCPView gives real-time info about all TCP and UDP connections in the system.

The Process and Thread utilities are the best in this collection. They are the tools with capabilities you won’t get in any other program. They include Autoruns, Port Monitor, Process Explorer, Process Monitor and VMMap. The tool Autoruns allows us to see all auto-run programs that are executed on the start-up of the computer. The items that cannot be found even in the msconfig are present here. Just make sure that you don’t disable some important ones or the computer might work in a funny way.

Some miscellaneous tools like Zoomit, BlueScreen are also present. Zoomit is very useful as a side-tool in displaying presentations. The Bluescreen screensaver can make anyone scared just for a moment: it will display a familiar error screen as a screensaver.
  • A lot of tools available.
  • Freeware.
  • Easy to use.
  • No ads.
  • Only some of the tools from the sysinternals are included.

What's new in version 2011.09.03

The new Sysinternals Toolbox release is now directly accessing the utilities from the Sysinternals WebDAV sever on the Internet. All utilities there are always current and maintained by the Sysinternals team.
